Ok, so I've been very quiet and a horrible blogger!

All with good reason, I'm in the process of getting a team together to launch a Sydney-based ONLINE MAGAZINE called Fashion.Music.Culture - F.M.C for short!

We have a Facebook page and the Issuu platform profile page READY and waiting to be launched.

We've gotten some very generous designers willing to loan pieces for our editorial, and we've recruited some talented editors for our Music and Culture section, and are recruiting writers, and anyone who is talented, dedicated and Sydney-based to contribute to this publication.

We have big plans!

Our main objectives are to promote local talents in these realms but we are also going to create a dialogue between the reader and the content, it will be interactive and aesthetically INSPIRING.

So 'LIKE' us on Facebook and keep posted to see what progress is being made as the issue comes together!!!

So we all know the majority of the fashion community has shifted from 'in store' shopping to easily accesible online perusing and purchasing. There's nothing wrong with that - by all means some of us barely find enough time to schedule in an eyebrow tweak let alone take the time to find limited edition statement pieces to re-vamp our basics.

Hence I felt I should try feature more stores here, which I am going to do now that I'm on mid-year break.

I'm currently organising a story-board review to determine the current seasons' most wearable and versatile shoe. In order to assist this project, I am reaching out to a variety of shoe manufacturers and designers and welcoming them to send in shoes for review.

Yes I know, I've been dormant, if you have been following my tumblr you'd see it's been more active than ever. It's the lazy-woman's blogging device.

Anyhow points to note from my observations and life thus far:

1. I officially sewed my own skirt, made from Burda, it's a business pin-stripe skirt. Gorgeous! I'm so excited!
2. I wanted to congratulate fellow blogger Miss B from A Girl, A Style. who will be in RED Magazine's next issue so check it out!
3. Everyone is obsessed with Acne Atacomas, even without mirrors, in beige, in white, in every possible colour. (Myself included in this category).
4. Monochromatic is my new musing for my wardrobe - by new, I mean renovated.
5. Like most Australians, I'm obsessed with the beach.

Black Swan (2010)

Granted, everyone has been posting mini-theoretical/semi-critical essay posts of Black Swan.

My personal favourite is the one posted by Tavi over at stylerookie.com.

Aside from that, the rest dwell on ramblings about how alouf the whole film is, and how it borderlines on horror fantasy.

My approach (more than likely is based on my Psychology background).

Firstly and foremost, the film does commence slowly, but you have a deep appreciation as you have time to absorb each character and who they are. The characters seem somewhat black and white in their personal evolution, for example Thomas (the company director played by Vincent Cassel) is aggressive, impatient, frustrated and a womaniser all in one. There's no gentle-side to him, there is just, shall we call it tolerance - to an extent. As long as his agenda is fulfilled, be it sexual or artistic, he is content.

Lily (Mila Kunis) on the other hand is participating in a somewhat hedonistic pursuit (as is everyone else but we'll get to that in a moment) as she is revealed to be openly sexual, and enjoys - living her life and it is the 'living' that pleases her most. She eats what many ballerinas may stay clear from (i.e a greasy bloody hamburger), she smokes, she experiments with drugs, she is somewhat sexually promiscuous. All in all, she dances 'ok' in terms of technique but that is easily dismissed because her sensuality and beauty permit her flawed dancing to be overlooked, simply because she captivates the audience.

Erica Sayers (Nina's mother, referred to as 'Mommy') is a complete mess. She's a woman stuck in a permanent depression and in a state of denial as she overprotects her daughter by trying to preserve a childhood innocence in Nina to avoid any mistakes. This one assumes is the way to control what happens to Nina, as Erica fell pregnant at twenty seven and had to 'end' her dancing career early because of it. It's a safe assumption that her attempt to preserve Nina in the mental state of a twelve year old is a way of sheltering her from sexuality, and from the experimentation that adolescents and adults encounter in life. This conflicting issue begins to press on strongly as Nina begins to assert herself as being 21 and not 12.

Nina Sayers, the star (Natalie Portman) well, she is played as a twelve year old. You see her form of expression and her mannerisms project that of a pleasantly well-trained child, only she isn't a child anymore. Upon auditioning for the role of Swan Queen in Swan Lake, Nina is found in a conflicting position as she is pushed by Thomas to exert her inner sexual self as to allow herself to seduce the audience through her portrayal of the Black Swan. However, how can she? If she isn't exactly aware of her own sensuality nor does she project a sexual person, how could she? She is a child trapped in a woman's body. As far as anyone else is concerned she's a-sexual and that's that.

Upon being chosen for the lead role, one begins to notice cunning stage design and costume design symbolism emerge, only those who pay attention will see it. For example Lily and Nina come face to face 'officially' in the bathroom of an event and Lily is wearing all black - we all know how sensual black is, I need not dwell on this point (and removing her underwear before jetting back to her beau) and Nina is wearing all white, a symbol of purity. Thomas' apartment is all black and white and he is dressed in a completely black tux, a symbol of the evil dark lord perhaps who tries to seduce the pure swan princess?

The evolution of Nina's character is intriguing and intensifies as the stress and pressure increases, she begins having hallucinations, becomes paranoid, injures herself or has visions of inflicting herself harm. She has dreams that play out her sexual ego which conflict with her daily state of mind and it is after she hangs out with Lily and pops a pill to 'roll' that her darker side emerges.

Encapsulated with beautiful symbolism many people may appreciate this film on its surface value but like I said, I wanted to embed a somewhat deeper appreciation.

The paragraph I wrote above describes in a somewhat shallow form, the symptoms of a psychotic-schizophrenic disorder (less say if this were an arbitrary diagnosis). It's commonly known (and if you do not believe me, simply look up some research papers on PsychInfo) that individuals of weaker personalities who are submitted to high-stress situations may develop schizophrenia because the mind cannot cope or simply because it's triggered a genetic subliminal condition and simply assisted in its' manifestation. [Try make note of little things like, wearing her hair out instead of in a tight neat bun, wearing makeup, becoming more aware of herself as a woman rather than as a dancer].

Nina has more hallucinations and becomes highly paranoid as the opening night approaches (and the stress increases) - it's been shown that experimenting with narcotics whilst experiencing these symptoms can trigger a full blown psychotic episode. Nina does undertake this pattern - it's a text book aggravated episode which plays out towards the end of the film. She has a full scale psychotic episode and upon regaining her seldom senses, she realises what has happened.

Many may argue she has developed a split personality disorder, a black swan to release her inner sexuality and suppressed womanly self and a white swan to preserve her childhood innocence. (United States of Tara anyone?)

It could even be suggested the film illustrates classical Freudian theory of the conflicting Id and Superego, basic animal instincts fighting against our socially acquired decorum.

That's the wonderful and treacherous thing about Psychology and Psychiatry, the diagnostics are incredibly arbitrary and this was the main problem I had with this area of science/medicine. You cannot actually see what your patient sees, you cannot trust in what they trust because it can and often is distorted.

I won't spoil the ending for you all, even though I'd like to by continuing my little rant, but I thought I'd point it out as many people may not be aware of this and it just creates a deeper appreciation of the director and Natalie's performance (granted she's a Psych Major at Harvard so she has background knowledge aswell).

I do applaud Darren Aronofsky and if I had the chance to sit down over coffee to talk to him about his film techniques, his way of telling stories (yes I loved 'Requiem for a Dream' too) I'd be very grateful and in a daze!

Note I did not discuss the lesbian scene between the co-stars because I think it pointless, if you've seen the film you'll notice I've made reference to it in this review.

Winona plays a perfect Beth (MacBeth style) - I thought that was very clever but since her role in the film is somewhat minor and more or less is used as a way of Nina justifying her endless pursuant to 'perfection' I found it more fitting if I were discussing the entire plot rather than discussing character evolution.

Beth, in any sense has strong issues of her own and it seems like in a world full of artistic fantasy there's nowhere for anyone to grasp on reality as everyone is intensely focused on projecting and portrayal illusions of another self. I felt Winona played on a more drastic interpretation of Susanna from Girl Interrupted.

Words that are used as connectors throughout the film, literally or in reference of their connotation: Lose yourself; Perfection; I'm Sorry; Control.

December 2010 Magazine Covers

My favourite thus far.

Now that I have some free time (I start Summer School next week, it's an attempt to finish my post-grad degree on-time/a little faster - I'm undecided as yet) I've put together the magazine covers of the issues I've roamed the shops for and purchased.

Note, in little ol' Sydney we resort to Borders or Kinokuniya for the exotic and imported fashion reads. So when I have time to stop by one or the other, I pick up my must-read Harper's Bazaar UK. This is what I read. Vogue Australia was also purchased (despite my ever dropping opinion of its content this issue isn't too bad) with Lil' Jagger on the cover and HB Australia was also obtained although I'm not completely through analysing it to communicate an opinion.

I know, I know, many people buy the fashion magazines purely for the editorials, this is true. HOWEVER, (pause for effect) I happen to like a side of intellectual fashion juice accompanied with the aesthetically stimulating and influential glossies.

Upon pondering which fashion bibles to embrace and reject, I realised I have only ever purchased one issue of Vogue USA, ever. The renowned 'Anna Wintour' may be just about the most powerful woman in the fashion world (short of the Roitfelds and I personally believe Grace Coddington is a force to be reckoned with), but staring at the glossy beacon of her life's work I flicked through and saw nothing outstanding, nothing at all. Now, this for me was akin to an epiphany, as I adored The September Issue film and loved the calculated behind the scenes look of what must be utter chaos. Despite this I came to terms with the harsh reality, that Vogue USA is not for me, not now and probably not until I see Grace replace Anna, if I live to see that day (or they live long enough for that to happen).

My conclusion wasn't really a closing but more of a question, have I become so particular with my tastes that I find Vogue USA distasteful and the European bibles higher, classier, more forward and not to mention more intellectual?

I'm sorry if this offends but if I have to see one more article about 'Body Image Issues' or features discussing how 'Angelina Jolie is so amazing for adopting an entire continent, looking slim, working for the UN and marrying (and in my opinion aging terribly) Brad Pitt... I'm going to vomit. This is where UK HB sets itself apart, I'm educated in their issues.

YES I want to know about how Nicholas Kirkwood got started and how he is now CD of Pollini.
YES I want to hear about Lauren Hutton's early Playboy Bunny days and how she pictured herself as a pre-feminist feminist.

THESE are the things I want to read when I pick up a fashion magazine, I could give two hoots about which surgeon will make me into a Polyester Girl (See the Regurgetator reference?) or which over-priced Day Spa is the most luxurious.

On that note, I am not a snob, I just dislike being intellectually under-minded by magazines that could be so much more.

I can't help but wonder sometimes, in relation to this blog, I've been writing here for over 2 years with minimal commentaries but to date over 30,000 visitors and growing, with offers of paid advertising and PR people emailing me weekly. Does anyone read this? I'd like to know, are you out there? Anyone?

Oh oh oh I almost forgot

So, trying to find the Peeptoe Oversized electric blue clutch online (because I haven't gone back into town and won't be there until well, Friday for work).

Instead I found these amazing eel skin clutches that are 30cm long (length of a ruler) which I love!! I want one in each colour for Christmas, mummy dearest, daddy dearest and loving sister, please if you're reading this, that's all I want for xmas. Not to mention it's a perfectttttt addition for the summer colour blocking I'm adopting.

So where do you find these amazing creations? Well I found them featured on Chictopia (ever-reliable to be honest) but they are from Bags of Sparkle.

They have some really nice unique (and reasonably priced) items, great gift ideas I think. I mean we all get sick of giving scented candles, house decor and books which become paper weights to our dearly beloved friends and family... so well I suggest a nice fashion accessory or spa treatment is a lovely x-mas gift for 2010.

COLOUR BLOCKING

Do it. Now now now, I know many will be saying 'But this is so 2009.' Well, I say, it may be but you know what, it hasn't completely died out and nor did I see it completely flourish here in Sydney. People were in fluros but not colour-blocking when I came back from South America. FYI: South Americans colour block well. Sydney-siders were into the Indie-Russh/Oyster fusion of alternative-i-can-wear-boots-in-summer-with-short-shorts-attitude. I was kind of very muchly grossed out to be honest. So if you are from Sydney and did NOT adopt this trend I applaud you, if you are in the contrasting category, take note. Boots and short shorts make you look like Daisy Duke, and only Daisy can pull it off because she's a hill-billy or a stereotypical butch-woman with a bad tan-line. Yes that may be politically incorrect but well, it's true. Boots in summer = ridiculous.

Personally, I love my all black colour blocking approach, with a stand out colour piece in a vibrate vivacious colour.

Hence, here's a small guide to colour blocking for this Australia Summer (or if you are feeling you need some life in your Northern Hemispheric winter)

1. Keep the tones in the same family, unless they compliment. // This means, if your dress is a stand out amber orange (the ever becoming new red) pair it with reds, yellows (or other warm tones) BUT if you are contrasting with complimentary colours, think, what goes with orange? Black, Electric Blue, White (if you dare). Stay away from brown (I would suggest strongly) and stay away from pinks, unless it's of the same warmth.

2. Don't be afraid. If you are wearing a bright coloured piece, wear it with confidence and all will be well.

When in doubt, then go all out in one staple basic colour, i.e white for summer resort vibes, or camel or black and then break the outfit up with a big BOOM of colour, for me, it's red strappy heels with a bright calypso oversized clutch. You'd be surprised how well the colours compliment one another.

Long overdue Update.

I'm so sorry, I must admit in the past months I've really neglected this blog and I send my biggest apologies. My semester at University has been intense and on top of that, I also got a job in a law firm so I'm having to prioritise my time at the moment, once exams are over I promise I'll have much more eye candy for my followers and fashion lovers.

I've had some time, I use the term loosely, to peruse my online bibles, and have been utterly channelling some snaps from Garance Doré (as usual) and also loving the features on A Girl A Style (i'm too lazy to link this at the moment but the links are to the right >>) - I know it's my ritual to provide a 'my predictions' section when FW (fashion week) hits but I haven't even had time to scope out the latest trends and by now most bloggers have already milked this for all its' worth. So, from the snaps Style.com was showing on the cover, I can tell I like Gucci, I like SOME Chanel (not all of it), I loved Lanvin and Hermés, I didn't find Isabel did an amazing job this season. I'm lusting for some Prada dresses (soon - much sooner than my 'next 5 year' goal I believe, in which case, not only will I post features but I'll find a way to post Style Pictures of myself as well).

BEFORE I forget (yes this post is all over the place). Lovely ladies from Rosa and Carlotta from Illustrated-Moodboard commented on one of my posts (a rare occurrence for my posts I'll admit!) and I must say! I LOVE THEIR ILLUSTRATIONS!!! So go check them out ASAP!

I've also found in the district I'm working in, I've discovered an untapped hidden population of incredibly well dressed people in Sydney. Seriously, don't under-estimate Lawyer Style, it's very clean and crisp with whole lot of elegance breezing with it.

I wish I could carry my D90 with me to work, but I'm afraid I'd become a street style photographer and purely miss out on eating because my lunch hour would be spent snapping pictures of women and men (in particular men) in their stylish glory.

I have here to post the Harper's Bazaar Spain November editorial spread, for you to oogle. Some of the shots remind me of the shot staged in the film GIA with Angelina Jolie.

Also for my Sydney-dwellers, you may be happy to know that Zara, HM, MIU MIU and many more will be finally coming down to Australia as the unveilings of the new City Centre Westfield Shopping Mall is being built, it's designed by an Italian Architect whose name has momentarily slipped my mind *note to self to report back with his name*.

Also, who ever said heels can be wore without the slip-ons was sadly mistaken and needs to apologise to my poor feet which were left bruised, blistered and bleeding first day on the job. THANKS!

Model, turned amazing fashion photographer, Zanita (pictured above), took some time out of her busy schedule earlier this month to answer a few questions regarding her new found love of photography.

I absolutely love her lookbook and not to mention the AMAZING blog post collaborations she does with fellow Aussie bloggers/stylists/models/makeup artists which scream for a prominent mention.

1. What inspired you to move from being in-front of the lense to behind it?
What was the defining moment leading up to it? I once went upstairs to my rooftop to shoot an outfit against the wall - but when I looked around the rooftop and really considered the way the sunlight bouncing I decided the image would be more effective if I capitalized on filtered light. From that point I decided that photography was something I was really interested in.

2. Who inspires you stylistically and why?
Chloe Sevigny

3. Who's your favourite fashion photographer and why?
Inez and Vinoodh, they're also artists.

4. What would be your dream photo shoot and why?
Styling by Jane How, Model Eniko Mihalik or Malgosia Bela, Hair by Michael Brennan, Make-up Linda Jefferyes and the location would have to be something relaxed like a beach house with Tiki decor. I'd keep it simple and make the shoot all about the mood. Dreamy and relaxed.

5. What's your opinion regarding Sydney fashion and Australia based fashion, in comparison to the more prominent pre-established fashion capitals like Paris, and NYC?
Australian fashion will never be as strong or innovative as the major fashion cities because the market here is not large enough to support that kind of creativity. I guess its partly because the buyers for major fashion retailers don't buy the stronger pieces from designers collections because they aren't interested in taking risks. The biggest fashion designers in Australia have a major part of their collections 'designed-down' for the everyday consumer in order to meet enough sales to support their businesses. Many fashion houses that stay true to a strong design aesthetic go out of business within a few years. You will often hear that the most celebrated new designers by major fashion publications are struggling financially because they simply aren't making the enough sales to support their creativity. Its a shame but its just the result of having a smaller and more conservative market.

6. What advice would you give to aspiring fashionistas or photographers wanting to enter the fashion industry?
The fashion industry is constantly changing and the only way to keep up is constant research. Buy alot of magazines.

7. If you could have a dinner party with any eight people of your choosing who would they be and why?
Bill Bailey, Billy Connelly, Will Ferrell, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais and my 3 best friends. We would laugh our asses off.

8. Do you think the internet has made a positive or negative impact on the fashion industry by adding an element of accessibility?
In most ways its positive but in a big way it has had a negative effect because the information is all free. I think its part of the reason why rates for people working in the industry and barely risen in 10 years. So many extremely talented young upstarts are forced to do alot of work for free.

9. Photographically speaking, how would you describe your photography style?
I have no idea how to explain this. My style comes to me almost instinctively - I just go with what I'm feeling. I guess i like natural looks, natural light, simple styling.

Have you ever found yourself wondering, 'What can I possibly wear in Autumn or whilst sailing that'll keep me warm and looking amazing?'.

I have! Not that I go sailing, it's on my to-do list after I graduate from law school, but the first part of the question I can relate to.
I find, usually warm clothing can seldom be synonymous with chic and stylish unless of course you're a gentleman, who enjoys the rugged charm of a trench with the amazing warmth of a knit. Yes, I'm describing the ever loved prep look.

I also feel as if, since Australia isn't cold - in comparison to say, Europe. Our winter wear can be more or less, all or nothing?

People walk around in stockings or tights, and rug up over it in crispy layers which I find is interesting but, not always amazingly chic.

If you get my drift?

Either way, the lovely people from Henri Lloyd, emailed me with a sneak peek to their Autumn/Winter collection and I must admit, I do love the Green Charlotte Parka from the women's collection. I'm not even kidding. I used the words parka and love in the same sentence.

AW/10 – Womenswear

The key trends for Henri Lloyd’s AW10 women’s wear collection echo those evident in the men’s wear collection – layering, protection, country and nautical influences. Recognising today’s atmosphere of social, economic and environmental uncertainty Henri Lloyd has created a collection which offers security through a brand name we can trust and depend on, which is brought up to date with technical details and modern fabrics to empower and protect.
Protection and layering have become fashionable yet remain functional with today’s continuing climate flux. Burberry thought it worthy of including in their collection, and Chanel's done a take on it aswell in their calf-leather quilted CC design. Not to mention all the draw-string designs from LV and Prada with their nylon take.

Well my lovely readers, I apologise for the lack of activity on my site at the moment, I've had a very full on offline schedule.

I had the lovely opportunity to interview Claudia Maturana from Esoteric Wardrobe, who's a Sydney-based fashion buyer and merchandiser who has recently set up her own online boutique promoting this idea of unique statement pieces at affordable prices.

Q: What inspired you to start up Esoteric Wardrobe, what was the defining moment leading up to it?
A: I've always wanted to have my own store, online shopping has made my dream more tangible, however i was being held back by fear. But one day with the full support of my family and my Boyfriend i thought what the heck and i may as well just give it a shot and see how it goes, and that's how Esoteric Wardrobe was born

Q: Who inspires you stylistically and why?
A: I'm inspired by a number of things. As far as style icons i like Erin wasson, Chloe sevigny, Alexa chung, Daisy Lowe, Olivia Palermo and Leigh Lezark. I'm also inspired by film, tv, people in the street, photo shoots and social media such as blogs, lookbook.nu and weardrobe.com

Q: Who's your favourite fashion photographer and why?
A: I love the photographic work of Hedi Slimane. I can spend hours just admiring the shots on his website. They are beautiful and serene yet have a story to them.

Q: What would be your dream photo shoot and why?
A: A dream photoshoot would be simply to have Hedi Slimane behind the lens and Erin Wasson in front of it, modelling for Esoteric Wardrobe of course.

Q: What's your opinion regarding Sydney fashion and Australia based fashion, in comparison to the more prominent pre-established fashion capitals like Paris, and NYC?
A: I personally think Australia has an array of extremely talented designers that are at our disposal. The clothes are wearable, unique and special. The Australian fashionista is daring and spunky and that is the type of person i'm thinking about when choosing the stock for the store. I think we are the type of people who are willing to experiment with looks, sometimes we get it right sometimes we don't but we just have fun with fashion. Other fashion Capitals are so different as they have a rich history with fashion whereas most of our Australian labels are pretty much just starting out. They have labels that have been around for decades and are world wide reknowned.

Q: What advice would you give to aspiring fashionistas wanting to enter the fashion industry?
A: It's is such a competitive industry so if you have the passion and the drive, put aside your self doubt and fear and make the most of it.

Q: If you could have a dinner party with any eight people of your choosing who would they be and why?
A: I would want to relax and have a fun time so i would invite Chelsea handler, Hamish and Andy, Russell brand, Jason Segel, Ross Matthews, Michael Cera and Paul Rudd to keep me laughing for the whole night. Life can't always be serious.

Q: What is it you're hoping achieve by launching Esoteric Wardrobe?
A: I'm just looking to achieve and fulfilling my dream of running my own clothing store. I want to provide customers with the option of purchasing fashionable garments at affordable prices and also offering them special vintage finds that no one else will have. I love vintage clothing and who doesn't love a bargain!

Q: Do you think the internet has made a positive or negative impact on the fashion industry by adding an element of accessibility?
A: I believe the internet is fantastic for the fashion industry. It's an easy portal for people to communicate and showcase their love for fashion in different and creative ways such as blogging. It's so much easier to communicate and keep in touch with your customer base. It is great for networking, keeping up to date with what is happening around the world and it allows the fashion world to move and revolve at a faster pace. It brings out a competitive edge in everyone which makes them up their game and work harder for the customer.

Blair Test Shoot 1004 and Style Notes

Style Note.
Considering I've been doing a lot of these, I should explain what my inspirational concepts are.
What I've basically organised is to round up people who I personally know, and who dress in what
I consider to be an admirable manner (whatever their particular influence) grab my Nikon D90 and
match their presence to a location around Sydney.

Considering the other models had minor information disclosed, I'm going to write about them in this entry and provide a link via their name, so you can flick to it to understand via aesthetic stimulation what I'm rambling about.

Anita
She was my very first model to shoot, ever. I remember showing up to her house (after getting somewhat lost) and seeing her amazingly clustered room full of things I wanted to run away with. She's big on thrifted items, which means she loves going to places like St Vinnies, Salvos and Op Shops and mixing those items up with exclusive boutique items. Like the amazing backless Balmain inspired jacket, which has a fringed back and shoulders. I lust for that jacket, but couldn't pull it off as well as she does.
She's very indie in her particular style, which is something I do admire, and I love how anything she wears, no matter if it's high-waisted shorts, or micro dresses, she looks completely comfortable and stylish. You notice her when she walks around the streets of Sydney.

Jasmine
Jasmine, has prior modelling experience and it's pretty evident from her shots which only adds to the quality of her style. I love the fact that she mixes textures, and loves black as much as I do. Our shared love of Jeffery Campbell is something we giggled about like little school girls over coffee, before getting down to photographical business. She is Rock n Roll Chic. So I placed her in some streets amongst Surry Hills and in Frames Café which is near the corner of Bourke St and Cleveland Rd (refer to the coach photo). I must admit her styling skills are to impress, it shows with her attention to detail which adds a Je ne se quoi to each outfit she sports out. She's amazingly stylish in her rock and roll way and I love that about her, which is why I wanted to capture it.

Sasha
This lovely creature, has an exotic mestiza beauty I wanted to completely exploit in close up shots, which I got to, happily enough. She also picked out her favourite outfits to wear out, and I feel she's like a Parisian lost in Sydney. To describe her in three words, Parisienne, Elegant and Chic. Without sounding like I'm drawing up a 'puff' piece, I feel the photos speak for themselves. Sasha, has this way of showing up completely casual yet completely neat and tidy at once, and always adds something amazing to finish off an outfit. Say, for example, all black with blood red shoes, it's this old world enchanting nature she brings to what she wears. If you could picture a tight red neck scarf, oversized sunglasses, a black Givenchy dress in a racy little vintage roadster speeding down a beach lining road - That's Sasha.

Blair

who's listed below in this post.
He's preppy, clean cut (except for when he's growing some facial accessories - no objections there though) and sophisticated. His lady friend, featured anonymously in one shot, was on site to help out and kudos to her for that! It was a great help!
B was/is the first guy I've ever had the pleasure of shooting and I'm amazed how well the final product was. His linen suit from his traveling adventures at Vietnam, accompanied by his woolen blue treasure complimented the Blackwater Bay backdrop inextricably. The colour tones made every detail stand out flawlessly, and the idea of the outfits, (which I'm proud of him piecing together on his own) stood out impeccably. The final few shots in the dark navy suit were done spontaneously at his place of residence, which ended up looking like editorial shots for something like GQ; credits to him on the spontaneous ideas for different angles and aesthetic concepts.

There are more to come, I'm hoping I can make these shoots a regular blogging contribution, for the moment. I'm always collaborating on a side-project with some other people within this same fashion realm, and if those plans do not fall through it'll mean bigger and greater things for my love of styling, fashion and photography. But for now, that's all I can say.

Browsing through the menswear shows that have been happening around town, the standouts for me have been Dunhill, Dior Homme and Hermès.

Why, because the rest look like an attempt of fusing industrial with simplistic and coughing up an idea of spring in between.
This comment also stands regarding the remainder of the Dior collection.

Give me the tidy, clean cut, eloquently stitched suits, knits, pants and masculinity that is Dunhill, Ralph Lauren and Armani porfavor!

PS. Hermès says Madras is back. Dunhill stands by sophisticated prep (which I love), and Dior Homme has been spending too much time with Ann D, Rick Owens and possibly Acne - as a result, it hasn't really ended with a collection I'd highly recommend to my fellow male colleagues. I'd more or less warn them to turn away QUICKLY. DON'T LOOK BACK!

Stand outs for far, for the much awaited Haute Couture lines have been CD, Chanel and Givenchy.
Galliano and Lagerfeld, please can you stop causing jaw-dropping gasps if admiration, it's happening way to often.
Ok, I kid, don't ever stop. Ever.

The colours by CD were/are amazing and I'm sure the Haute Couture influence will find its way filtered down, watered through, into our everyday wear as per usual, but only this time, I hope it's 'inspired' well. The lion theme by Chanel, I'm not too sure about but their overcoats don't look High Fashion at all but rather like the left overs from the Winter collection Karl simply forgot to place into his previous show. Hmmm. Givenchy, well I love the surrealism and the gowns and I wants (sic) them all. Seriously.

Karl Lagerfeld / Vanessa Paradis

Vanessa Paradis, described as a dainty and an eery singer, I believe is one of the most aptly chosen models for the Chanel campaigns. Alongside, Audrey Tautou, these two amazing french women reinforce my dying desire to flee Australia and move to France in search of a bohemian life pending citizenship. Their gaze, and in particular Paradis' gaze, sets the scene for good music, good food, great wine and picturesque life experiences in a country they chose to reside in, simply because it is that much better than anywhere else in the world. My love of all things french combined in two elements right here. Karl Lagerfeld technique, Chanel style, and the 'Je ne se quoi' spirit of the people.

I was sent the amazing photoshoot by HB Spain, which it's running for their summer spread (because northern hemispheric dwellers are enjoying beautiful sunshine and beaches whilst I'm (not) enjoying winter. Ok I lie, I do love winter, the wardrobe options are pretty much endless.)

Perusing the beauty that is jet dark lipstick with fluorescent blue backdrops, symbolising a picturesque resort escape, this spread reminds me of the Chanel Campaigns which were made back in 2003/4.

Autumn Update and Oh BONDAGE feature!

I'm so very sorry for being away for so long, I promise I haven't forgotten you. I've been painstakingly making a conscious effort to not become distracted with my love of fashion, whilst balancing post-grad law studies, a social life and work.

Things I need to scribe so I do not forget to post on, even in retrospect.

3. Latest Winter Street Style in Sydney (I'm hoping to have a free day to just go out and about and do some street style snaps on a Saturday at the markets).

So I've been half-assing my posts lately and I do apologise. So today, instead of reading case law and writing up summaries, I decided to dedicate some time to a giant posts of all the stands for the fall shows. So I grounded up some nice creme coffee beans and put the kettle on and sat down to enjoy a delicious aromatic peruse of what is to graze our editorials, streets, and street fashion photography. (Speaking of Street Style, I've developed a model crush, on the ever cool and smooth Coco Rocha, I spotted her in a few of the Paris shows and BAM love the brown hair [that's not to say I disliked the red hair]).

Personally, I felt a little let down by Isabel Marant in her RTW collections, I felt like the combinations were not combinations at all but rather a rushed sense of 'quickly just put this together and throw the model out on the catwalk'. So I was kind of disappointed. Yves, (Stefano) kind of freaked me out with his 'nun' take and uniform blacks and whites so, I think plainly for turning Madonna a la Rick Owen, I decided to leave him out of my picks because I felt like it was not only creepy but not at all wearable, for my tastes.

Givenchy won a secret spot in my heart purely because the splashes of red throughout the collection reminds me of droplets of blood or smeared lipstick on the collar, and the cuts were just lovely.
A common trend this season, odd cuts. What was going on? Oversized waistlines? I felt like I was flipping through bizarre takes on 'abstract fashion for mainstream society', and no, I did not like it though I can safely say, it was interesting, that's about it.

Chanel, well, Karl is always doing extravagant things with the traditional 'suit' that embodies Chanel and I never hate it and always love some element of it, this season I was left wondering but finally was won over.
Speaking of the Tsar himself, Vice Magazine put out an interview with Karl which is a breath of fresh air. Of course, his arrogance, intellectualism, creativity and strong opinions come through every word he says, which is what makes him so brutally charming. To read it, HERE.

The stand out for me by far has to be H a i d e r__A c k e r m a n n, I was completely awe struck! This is saying a lot considering most readers/followers of Style Influential, would know by now I sing praises mainly to Balmain and Marant but this was purely amazing as was Hermès AND Lanvin!

I did enjoy the entrance of nude/beige/neutrals this season, it was a lovely change from the typical greys and blacks, I can see myself running around accumulating all variations of these collections for the coming season; Especially since poor ol' lil' Sydney is already a quarter of the way into Autumn and will be facing Winter quite soon (that's if you classify our winters as a winter in the traditional sense).

I love it, I'm obsessed with it, especially since I've been feeling blue lately, not because of any particular reason or cause, it's just one of those slumps where not even the Vogue bible makes me smile, but then again I am exaggerating. I was smiling non-stop this morning and last night. But that's no the point.
The point is, I love coffee.

Anyway, I haven't posted in awhile, I considered closing this down then realised I was completely insane! So much work and effort, it's be idiotic to completely erase it.

Previewing some collections this afternoon... I'm not too sure how I feel about it. I think I'll stick to my Emanuelle, Carine and Julia inspired looks thanks.

The stand outs for me so far, Valentino and Prada.. the cape in Lanvin was nice but I refuse to jump onto that trend.

I'm not feeling much of a different vibe, I'm waiting for Marant and Balmain to come on through with something that will wow me, simply because this simplistic and 'turn night into day' approach is getting a little old and is not practical at all.

Luxury is meant to be sought but also meant to be practical, I doubt we'd walk down the street in a giant faux fur leopard coat unless you're in LA, and unless you're Rachel Zoe or Nicole Richie.

CD Courture 2010 Feature AND Street Style Snap.

As a truly dedicated fashion writer, I immediately felt compelled to snap this sneaky street style find when I was driving in the city the other day. The lady looks amazing, in heels, and a Balmain cropped style (inspired) jacket with a plain white blouse and black denim jeans.

It was one of those moments where I wished I could've pulled her over and asked her to pose for a full proper shot on the Vespa she was riding.

Now, I've been out of sorts with the latest and greatest that is runways, fashion and the new trends. So, when I logged on (with heaps of time to spare) to Style.com to check out what's new I came across an amazing collection (naturally) by Galliano for Christian Dior. I fell in love with the vibe, mainly because it is inbetween channelling Eliza Dolittle from Pygmalion also known as My Fair Lady, with Audrey Hepburn AND it channels the atmosphere of Marie Antoinette (the Sofia Coppola movie).

At moments I thought I was at the Ascot Races then in another I thought Sofia had taken over and made edible cupcake couture. It was bedazzling and I do hope that people appreciated the detailing of the make up and the accessories.

I adore the oversized jewels (but then again I wear oversized jewels ALWAYS, so I'm somewhat bias) and I loved the shoes. The shoes and booties were stand outs for me alongside the leather gloves... However the leather gloves reminded me a bit of the take on gloves awhile ago, I believe it was something like two years ago for Fall/Winter? Anyone remember?

Jak and Jill, again my favourite source of inspiration for when I'm completely stuck on how to add a little something something to my style.

Gucci ankle boots, or just any ankle boots are the ultimate way to lengthen legs.. even when they are really really long already.

When I have my daughter, I'll definitely dress her up like Emmanuelle dresses up hers.. how cute does the folded up denim with flats and trench look? It's like a mini-grown up. Only more stylish.

I love this look, it's completely 80s or 70s, or both with a fusion of rock chic, which is not easy to pull-together because it can look cheesy and cliché.

Back from Travelling.

Well my people I had an amazing commencement to my summer traveling through Chile. I did a lot of partying, met alot of amazing people and saw many amazing sceneries I will be sure to go back next summer.

So for now as I recover I've purchased my first fix of fashion heaven, RUSSH 01/10 and I must say Proenza = Love and I believe I had said so when the collection came out. Do you remember? I'm sure you do.

Anyhow, if you're looking for a beautiful 12 month calendar for 2010, I recommend heading over to Miss @ la Playa and download her amazingly pieced together calendar.

Secondly, I've noticed compared to the street style I've been exposed to in Chile, Sydney has let me down just a little this summer, nothing too impressive or influential to report. Roman sandals, denim shorts, oversized tees... *sigh*

In Chile I saw jump suits, short dresses with patterned tights, sandals like this..

Paired with tights and micro mini dresses and oversized jewelry it was lovely!!!

Well my darlings, I am writing to you directly from Santiago Chile, the weather has been kinda of strange, hot one day, cold the next, especially at night but the people watching, and suburban adventures are been many.

I went on my first official shopping expedition the other day and fell in love with Via Uno shoes, of course direct from Brazil, typical. Brazilian shoes tend to be the most comfortable even at increible heights!

I walked away with some amazing flats and all black peep toe wedges.

The street style here is incredibly mixed and unlike what I originally intended, which was, to take pictures galour, I have been advised that whipping out my Nikon will result in theft!

So I have abstained from it... sadly enough.

But I will attempt to describe the summer wear here, it is mainly short denims, somewhat ages and bleached, tights, usually two thirds of the leg in length, oversized white kaftans on top with a dark coloured bra underneath and not to mention a mixture between, singlets and long sleeves.

I have been getting nods of approval from higher class women who have spotted me in my denim mini skirt, with 3/4 tights, sky high wedges or amazing flats (which I just got) and my Carla Zampatti blazer. Accessories galour of course, I have a vintage airforce broach on my left and an oversized silk flower on my right and I delicious black sadle bag which gives more height to my already tall frame. All around not a bad mix.

I was so excited I came across a blazer in Alaia which had the colar completely studded but alas I wanted to size up so I could wear a jumper underneath and there were none left! Unbelievably sad I must say... I looked like a modification Miss at la Playa or Garance would swoon over.

Oh well.

I must admit I have never in my life owned a pair of wedges which are so incredibly high and so incredibly soft and comfortable to wear!! I am in LOVE! And the best part of this store is they make handbags in the matching seasonal tones of the shoes and the name texture of leather! Complete and utter genius of those of us who like owning the matched collections of accessories!

I've finished my real-world responsibilities for the summer, thankfully and will be jetting off to Chile within the next few days so I'm rigorously rushing around trying to make sure I have everything ready and in place.

Tickets. Check.
Clothes for beach, day and night. Check.
Shoes (1 pair of flat boots, 1 pair of heels, Haviannas, Sandals, Chux). Check. (although I'm contemplating another pair of heels and wedges).

Presents. Check.

Ok all that is done now what to channel this summer?

Many colours, many contradictions, short shorts made their way into the Northern hemisphere, with tights, ripped leggings, butch boots, sandals, blazers.

I honestly had no idea whether we were regressing into circa 90s of Grunge or circa 70-80s of heavy metal.

Either way, I was perousing Dore's, because I haven't done so in ages, I've noticed a merging of photographs between her and Scott, I dislike this. Scott posted pictures of those cute rodeo kids, and as did Garance... I felt bored on that note BUT then she completely blew me away with the following posts of tattoo beauty, Acne clothing and SHOES that someone called Tabitha owns. *sigh*

My fashion fix is complete.

I love the woman with the tattoo, I'm thinking of getting one because she makes it look so workable, but then I remember, I'll be entering a conservative up-market profession and may not be able to hide a wrist or forearm tattoo in a board meeting. We'll see, I've given myself the deadline of 30, if I still want one by then, then I know I can live with it permanently.

I'm in dire need of Acne now... Seriously and tees that embody retro faded looks, like the Heidi Klum shirts I've seen around, and the cute Transformer shirts with chinese writing on them. I usually wear them over-sized, under a blazer or two I own, with denim anything on the bottom or not always denim but skirts, pants, shorts, dresses, totally amazing.

Shoes choices for the Season.

A very close fashion friend of mine made me aware of the YSL Tribute Purple Platform Suede shoes on N-a-P which also made me aware, I hadn't been scoping out the latest shoe trends. ME not focusing on SHOES!

I must be really serious about my studies, that's the only explanation because I hadn't even realised I'd neglected my shoe obsession. I usually spot the trends and get amazing 'inspired' versions because unfortunately I cannot afford the designer original, just yet. But don't you worry when I can afford them I promise you this will turn into one of those crazy 'look at me and my designer outfits I can finally afford' especially since I'm working really hard to reach that level of accomodation.

But heck, aren't we all? It's a part of the capitalist mentality, however, I believe as long as we also do good with our fortune, we are contributing to the greater good. This is a side-note for people to help out charities and volunteer at community centres!

I've a loyal follower of Coco's Tea Party, I love her hits and misses but more importantly I love how she keeps me up to date on starlets who evolve into Style Icons.

In particular, many of you have noticed her Dakota crush and not to mention Blake's hate to love transformation (for the record I've always loved Blake, despite what she wore last year! She's amazing!).

Therefore, I find that after visiting Coco's blog today (whilst procrastinating instead of revising for my Criminal law exam Saturday), I found a striking flash back.

Then it hit me.

Dakota, I dare say is OUR generation's answer to Gwyneth. Yes, I said it, I stick by it.

Musical Inspiration: The Kooks - Sway.

So I've gone throw the accessories picked out for Spring (which I imagine will also be adopted in summer), I see a lot of mixture in textures, colours and of course the dark mystique undertones from Givenchy and Rodarte filtering through as inspiration and influences for many.

I've feature Chanel, Givenchy, Lanvin, and Proenza Schouler because let's face it they ruled the accessories aspect of Spring.. there are others which also made themselves known but these are my picks and you all know, I don't swim with the school of fishes, I tend to swim ahead.

Stumbling upon Armani Exchange recently, simply because I procrastinate greatly when I'm in the middle of exams, I came across a new feature on the Armani Exchange webpage.

It seems like, everything these days needs to be made accessible for the technological generation (Gen Y) and above, therefore, A|X came up with an awesome concept. It's basically grasping the internet to create a more 'behind the scenes' look at what goes on with their sponsored events, or shows and even parties.

In early October, A|X:TV was released and is quickly taking over all things multi-media in regards to fashion.

You get access to a channel called the Armani Exchange Life Video system which features, weekly updates on trends, shows and the newest feature, video-diary entries made by the A|X models and an inside look into the night-life. It's almost like reality TV means fashion bourgeoisie.

It will also feature an interview module in which DJ's will be interviewed and a bit of vlogging by them will also be done.

I was scoping it out and they actually facilitated the feed streaming into YouTube, FB and MySpace, which means when the Fall lines start getting organised and shot, this channel will be providing all the 'behind the scenes' access to the campaigns.

I was contacted by the A|X Rep, and invited to share a special invite only link to the new feature, so for all my loyal readers who have stuck by me through this busy time (and lack of posting), here's a special treat!

Firstly, I was kind of unimpressed with the manner in which, the style was downgraded to such a simplistic casual look. THEN I began to find treasures amist the looks I found were rather rushed, last minute, and in all honesty kind-of a mess.

I know I'm trash talking one of my favourite designers but it needs to be said, some blazer cuts made the models look neckless - NECKLESS? Is that 'in' now?

Above all, I'm positive designers must keep flattery of the silhouette in mind for the consumer. Eitherway I still loved it - I will not lie. The contrasts, and even some stripes, caught my attention - the fur reminds me of something she wore in a feature article I re-posted a month ago.

I first came across them last year when Jak&Jil's Tommy Ton, took an amazing picture of them on someone's amazingly stylish feet and I thought to my 'My goodness, finally someone who's come up with a shoe I can wear!' I love the platform trademark style, the Spiderweb heel is what essentially won me over in all its glory. I imagine if this had been out before SATC ended, it would've found its way into Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha's wardrobe, undoubtedly!

It's just an amazing style, I think you can pair it with basically anything. Jeans, dresses, shorts, skirts, t-shirt dresses and even dare I say it.. cropped pants.

Therefore, I think that Mr Kirkwood, has earned

of the Year for 2009.

I mean a lot of good competitors were out there this year. The YSL tribute pump was all the rage at the beginning of the year, not to mention the thigh high boot produced by many fabulously creative people. However, I cannot help feel those items may be a little dated, personally I purchased a pair of OTK boots, I love them. I'll continually wear them, but if I came across a real-life Blair Wardolf, I'm positive she'd look at me in disgust if I were to wear them say, next winter. It's so unacceptable. (hahaha)

Anyway, Mr Kirkwood, thank you for this amazing exhibition of artistry and style for 2009 and I'm sure 2010 will see many more fabulous demonstrations of why you're climbing into our hearts and closets!
